Here’s a great article on the rich kids of the elite Chinese government officials who like to spend money on Lambos. Here’s my dad’s experience with them.. My dad had a confrontation with one of these kids once. My dad was parking in a yellow zone and a young woman asked him in Chinese if he could move his van so she could park in his spot. (The context of this location was that there was 3 yellow spots. She wanted to park in the first spot as she thought it was not a yellow zone. She did not want to park in the other 2 spots. My dad then brusquely replied to her in English that this is a yellow zone, her car did not have commercial plates to park in the zone, and that she would be towed if she parked there. My dad refused to be intimidated with his commercial plated Sienna. That’s my dad’s experience with the fueyidai.

Part of me just wants to get a Golf, sawzall the roof off and rust out the sheetmetal, then dump it on coils and diamond steelies, and pull up to a more casual car meet in Vancouver where some of these people are showing off their supercars, just to see how butthurt they get. As you can tell, I’m a bit resentful.

My MR2. He’s named after Charlie Kelly from Always Sunny. Small, ugly, gets high pitched when angry, strengely competant at random things, and likely to try to kill you at some point.

Actually, a Fiero Mera would probably be even more troll-like.

After going to China 3 times I can confirm. Their one child policy, along with the economic growth has created an entire generation of entitled, spoiled brats. Not everyone is that way of course. I felt sorry for the waitresses waiting on tables of 2, and seeing them spend more on one meal, than they make in an entire month. Most don’t even get tips. That has to be disheartening to see day after day.

It’s way roomier than a Miata. No comparison. The front seats are roomier than my BRZ.

My town has seen an influx of newer Porsches in the last 5 years, most of which appear to be driven by young Asian men, near the university. They too have a car club that is predominantly Chinese men. I always laugh when I see like four kids who all appear to be cruising together or all leave a location and 2-3 of them get in their Porsche 911s and 1-2 get in a recent model Mustang GT or Camaro, and I always imagine them feeling sorry for themselves(I don’t know if they actually do, but it’s easy to imagine). I also laugh cause it’s almost always one person per car, which I guess if you have a 911 makes sense but more often than not if we were going somewhere when I was in college we were overcapacity. 6 in a water damaged Neon? Sure, why not.
